After 7 rings they normally stop. But they leave a number which if you have a caller ID you can ignore. But if you want to play their game ...just say your from GCHQ or from THE SPERM BANK... that should make them think!!

How can we retaliate?
Is there NO WAY that we can stop these automatically generated nuisance calls. Someone has to be accountable. Do we know how they got our number...did they pay for a list from some unscrupulous company we have all dealt with in the pass? We should be able to stop these immediately. I have tried blocking the number on my mobile.

We can't retaliate easily. Only if anyone is there, keep them on as long as possible to waste their time (if you can spare your own!). Try and get them worked up and angry.

FYI I have managed to block this, and virtually all other nuisance calls, by buying a Truecall machine. Not cheap but well worth the money as the system analyses your calls and we have now discovered that, despite being registered with TPS, over 80% of our calls are sales calls !

Why call me?
Just had a call from this number. I live in South London. As I have family in USA I answered, but it was silent. I checked online as I guessed it might be a sales company. Now I know it is some kind of scam, I shall make a contact name and not answer should they call in the future. Best way to deal with anything is to ignore it!

Bloody Annoying
I suspect this is a call centre whose employees have to hit certain call targets per day the operators don't care if they sell the service or not, so any number will do to justify their monthly salary cheque. Annoying is an inadequate word to describe these calls, a little internet research revealed they are an accident insurance claims telesales company. Since I have no record of any accident or insurance claim in the last 20 odd years, they can't be doing their research very well, or they just don't care about the validity of the details they claim to have. It just boils down to money folks.

Annoying
Had a couple of calls from this number, reporting to be "Windows Support Team" as I've "problems". Had an eight minute session of mostly him being abusive and me purposefully mis understanding his broken English/Indian accent. In the end I won and he slammed the phone down on me, I won !! It's just an autodialler, annoying, nothing that can be done can be amusing. Tell them nothing and vent your anger. This one recons he knows where I live and he's coming for me LOL !!!!! FOOL !!!

Yet again call from this no. I do not answer them let ansaphone kick in with my message that says unidentified, international, private, withheld nos will not be answered due to large volume of nuisance calls even though ex directory and TPS (useless in my opinion!) registered..........if you wish to speak to us please leave a message,.....they don`t. Today I have had 2 unavailable now this one, this week I have had at least 3 calls a day which I will not answer.......in the past month - every day something.............totally fed up with all of this. About time something was done by the powers that be to stop it.

Your number might be new to you but BT recycle old numbers. There's every possibility that your number is on a list somewhere under the previous BT customers' name.

Time for some Direct Action...
Instead of just putting the phone down, we should all start giving them bomb threats etc. It costs time and money to evacuate a building, money is the only thing that matters to these people, and they will soon find their cold calling scam is no longer cost-effective.

Buy a call blocking phone
Recently bought BT call blocking handsets and one of the best investments ever made. International, withheld & individual numbers can all be barred with facility to let individual numbers through e.g. friends abroad. Not trying to be smug or recommend any particular bit of kit, but if you are plagued by nuisance calls forget TPS as this is the way to go.

If it is to your mobile and it is android, there are plenty of free call barring apps, of course for me, some stupid legitimate people withhold their number and they won't be able to get through. As for the bomb threat guy - yeah good luck with that, you may find yourself in quite a precarious position with that one. This is all we can do, there are laws that prevent them from doing it however there is little that anyone of authority will and can do, the resources required to find out who they are and punish them is far more expensive then an annoyed citizen. We will have to grit and bare, and use the limited barring means accessible to us.

Texas calling Scotland? Why?
The number came up as "TX, USA" on my UK mobile and since I wouldn't want someone in the US incurring charges phoning a mobile abroad I very kindly didn't answer it. I thought that if they really need to make contact they can email or text me for far less. However if they ARE really a (cold) call centre then I almost wish I had and let them incur a phone bill. Maybe this will eventually make it unviable to have these un-targeted and unwanted practices. And I have a pink elephant on my roof...

Government Windows Recycling Scheme
Had Scottish girl call me this morning advising me of grants available for recycling of old windows. My usual reply to any of these types of calls is that I stay in a local authority house and they take care of anything like this. I've definitely had a lot less calls since using this tactic. Hopefully it means that there will be a big red line put through my number as there is no money to be made here.

Hung up on my automated announcement
I have a truecall unit that asks them to state their name before ringing the phone. Looking at the website you can see a list of calls you have received, and the option of barring them with a rude message! Some try up to 20 times (in groups of 5 or so) before they get the message. This one has only tried once so far, hanging up when asked to give their name by my recorded message. Now blocked permanently so Ill see how often they try now. Before I acquired this unit I used to try and convert them to a (entirely fictional) religion threatening them with eternal agony if they don't comply! Frightens them off quite fast. usually :)

I managed to keep someone on the phone for over an hour by asking them to hold and I put the telephone on top of my radio alarm, so they got an hour of Radio Two. They would have got more as I did not want to be engaged for that length of time. They were there all the time as I checked and could here the background noise and the occasional voice questioning what was going on.

English person speaking .....not !!
Have had several calls from this number lately. Usually they say they are from the UK anti hacking team (sound more like they are calling from India to me!!) and that I have a problem on my computer. They then quote my work email address as the offending email so I tell them to contact my company's IT Security Team and that I can give them the number - they usually hangup then. Now I leave the phone to go to the answer-machine and they hang up straight away.

Get a call blocker
This is the first number I've blocked using my new CPR Call Blocker. It's cheaper than True Call but does the job perfectly. Read the reviews on Amazon. Blocks international, withheld, private, unavailable and individual numbers. Took great satisfaction in hitting the red 'Block Now' button during the call. Will never hear from them again.

Get a call blocker and stop whining!
OK people, you obviously do not understand how the TPS works. The TPS is not any kind of authourity or regulatory body, the clue is in the name, Telephone PREFERENCE Service, all they can do is supply call cantres with lists of numbers and say "These people would PREFER not to be cold called." but if the call centre chooses to ignore these lists there is nothing the TPS can do about it. If these people call you persistently, then you can ask the TPS to refer it up the line to a regulatory body, but you will find that even then the chances of these people being taken to court or fined is very remote indeed as there is no real legal definition of telephone harassment nuisance. The same people would probably have to call you 15 or 20 times A DAY before it would be considered grounds for prosecution The best option is to get a call blocker. Cost about £40 and you can program up to 200 numbers into it. When they ring the blocker cuts them off immediately, the phone won't even ring once. Well worth the money.

Just leave the phone without replacing it for a while. Then they can't use it until you hang up. I vary this by having a little 'cuddly' dog by daughter brought me that, when pressed, lets out howls of laughter. (My daughter says its the way I laugh anyway) I helps brighten my day.
